Murray Vernon is a two-time national champion in handball, a former NYAC captain and a 1982 Hall of Fame inductee.
Murray Vernon became a member of the NYAC in 1918. In 1927, and again in 1928, he won the national championship in one-wall singles handball. Vernon was also a nationally ranked squash and tennis player; he set a record by winning the heavily competitive NYAC squash championship seven times.
Vernon remained an active member of the Club after his athletic career was over. He served on the athletic committee and later as captain from 1952 to 1953. Vernon was also a dedicated member of the Anglers and American Legion Post 754.
Murray Vernon died on March 26th, 1978.
