Unquestionably the most easily identified trophy in the Hall of Fame Room is the Sir Thomas Lipton Trophy. Lipton was renowned as one of the finest yachtsmen of the early 1900s and, though not a member of the NYAC, was a great admirer of the institution and its accomplishments.

Lipton was honored at a lavish dinner at the Club in December 1912. The following year he reciprocated by donating the Lipton Trophy to the NYAC “for their many courtesies while competing for the America Cup.” The Trophy depicts a ship carried by a winged seahorse, and is made of sterling silver with an enameled mast.
